The company is looking for Co-op students to work in Manufacturing Engineering (co-op term or contract employment available) in our Owen Sound facility. This is a great opportunity to be part of a small team working with engineering, production, and various other groups, including vendors and customers. About the Position:
The Manufacturing Engineering Co-op position includes problem solving and root cause analysis in various disciplines and with various products, primarily liaising between production and engineering. The successful candidate(s) will be working with a small team of experienced Manufacturing Engineering employees for mentoring, and will be working directly with supervision for project assignments and specific training. This is a great opportunity to get involved with product and process development, apply your education, and to learn more about the business! The following proficiencies are required:
Using SolidWorks, add manufacturing details to existing drawings, and to new designs, to outline the optimal manufacturing process for welding, machining, electrical / mechanical assembly, and paint;
Jig, fixture, part and process design using SolidWorks or AutoCAD, and coordinating release into production with ECN;
Review drawings for manufacturability and collaborate with engineering to establish manufacturing standards and revisions as applicable. This includes specifying manufacturing capability in various facilities, part manufacturing sequence (routings), specifying standard times based on experience or historical data analysis, and setting up production categories;
Create SOPs and Work Instructions to standardize and define processes;
Respond to customer, factory, and vendor non-conformances and document problems using our Product Problem Reporting database. This includes coordination of interim actions (i.e. inspection, containment, rework), root cause analysis, and corrective action assignment or execution as applicable;
Identify and coordinate improvement opportunities, define ROI, and manage implementation as applicable;
Participate in quotation of contract manufacturing projects and manage projects from start to finish.
About You:
The successful candidate(s) must have a positive / open-minded team-attitude with excellent communication and time management skills. Willingness to learn, attention to detail, and a high technical aptitude are also required. This position requires some hands-on problem solving (factory and field) along with in-depth analysis using various computer programs, specifically Microsoft Excel and SolidWorks. The following qualifications are required:
Enrolled in an Engineering Technician or Technologist in Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electrical, or Industrial discipline, or equivalent;
Positive attitude, high aptitude, humble and willingness to learn is a must;
Trade experience in machining and/or welding is a strong asset;
Trade experience in mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical assembly in an asset;
Some experience working in Quality or Manufacturing Engineering in an OEM fabrication environment;
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SolidWorks;
Able to demonstrate a strong mechanical aptitude;
Able to self-start, and schedule priorities as assigned, working with minimal direct supervision;
Training or certification in 8D problem solving, value stream mapping, and constructive communication is an asset.
